Home Remedies for Snoring

Home remedies for snoring have been around for a long time -- probably a lot longer than you think!  Snoring can cause a sleeping problem for the partner or significant other of the person with excessive snoring issue.

With a little research (like reading this post) the one suffering from the excessive snoring can find a number of solutions to the problems associated with snoring and many are home remedies.  Nope, you may not need surgery or a special device, until you try these first!

Losing weight is one of the most effective things you can do to eliminate snoring. You may be able to stop snoring with weight loss, as snoring is linked to obesity. Besides, there are also many other health benefits that come with losing weight.  (You can read my personal story how this worked in my causes of snoring post.)

Don't consume alcoholic beverages before you go to sleep. Snoring is more likely in persons who drink heavily before bed time than others who do not drink. If you confirm that you snore only when you have had one too many, then avoiding drinking before bed time is your home remedy for snoring.

Stop smoking.  Believe or not, smokers tend to snore more than non-smokers because of increased congestion and mucous build-up. Most smokers breathe through the mouth and take shallow breaths when awake.  At night, breathing through the mouth causes snoring from the vibration of the soft palate or tonsils.

Excessively dry air can sometimes be a culprit.  If you live in a dry climate, or it's a dry time of year (a cold winter, for example), a humidifier may help cut down on your snoring.

Your sleeping position can also be a snoring cause.   Snoring is most common when sleeping on your back, due to your jaw dropping out of line.  Simply changing to sleep on your side can help reduce or even cure snoring.  (If you must sleep on your back, you may want to consider an anti-snoring device.)

When is Snoring a Medical Issue?

Keep in mind that a persistent snoring after home remedies for snoring have failed may require additional solutions.  Not only can snoring be bothersome it could be a sign of a medical problem. You can always try  or a , but if all fails, do seek a medical advice.

Your doctor needs to know your history and your patterns from you and your partner in order to make the correct diagnosis. For example, if the doctor decides that your snoring is caused by restrictions in your air passages, a simple surgery may cure your problem.

requires examination, diagnosis, and treatment by your doctor. If at all possible, your sleeping partner should accompany you when you visit the doctor for consultation. You obviously will have no idea how and when the snoring occurs, but your partner will be able to fill in for you!

Serious health problems could arise for you and even your partner from a lack of sleep. You will be less productive if you do not get enough rest. You risk falling asleep in dangerous situations. As much as you may find it hard to believe snoring is not as simple of a problem as you might think.
